Founding SKDK Partner Anita Dunn Inducted into 2026 AAPC Hall of Fame

Washington, DC – Yesterday, the American Association of Political Consultants inducted Anita Dunn into its Hall of Fame, the highest honor bestowed by the Association in recognition of industry pioneers who have made a significant and lasting mark on political consulting and communications. Dunn was honored during the AAPC Hall of Fame Gala in Washington, D.C.

Dunn, an original SKDK partner and leading communications and political strategist, has spent more than five decades shaping presidential campaigns and public affairs efforts. She served as a senior strategist to Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, White House communications director during the Obama administration, senior adviser to Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign and senior adviser in the Biden White House. Dunn is the only person to have served as a senior adviser on the winning campaigns of two different U.S. presidents.

“I’ve known Anita for more than three decades and had a front-row seat to one of the most remarkable careers in our profession,” said Bill Knapp, a founding partner of SKDK and a 2025 AAPC Hall of Fame inductee. “She’s helped elect presidents, guided leaders through defining moments, built a world-class public affairs practice and mentored generations of strategists. No one is more deserving.”

Doug Thornell, CEO of SKDK added, “Anita’s career is a master class in leadership, strategy and public service. For more than five decades, she has been the person leaders call when the stakes are highest and the challenges are greatest. What really sets her apart is how much she cares about her team. She has mentored countless people throughout their careers. Her impact on this firm and on our profession is immeasurable.”

Following Dunn’s service in the Obama White House, she returned to SKDK and launched its award-winning public affairs practice, building a team of top talent that is recognized as one of the most respected in the country. She advised clients across corporate, philanthropy, labor and advocacy, helping organizations navigate across complex policy debates, reputational challenges and high-profile issue advocacy campaigns.
