John Kim is a seasoned communications strategist with deep expertise in public affairs, crisis management, and advocacy. He draws on his experience in political campaigns, nonprofit advocacy, and corporate communications to develop and execute high-impact strategies for his clients.
At SKDK, John has led complex communications initiatives across industries, including healthcare, philanthropy, technology, and education. He has helped a major cancer center successfully navigate high-stakes contract negotiations with a leading insurer, secured national media coverage for a healthcare startup’s fundraiser, and guided a top virtual behavioral health company through reputational challenges. He has also led winning advocacy campaigns for education and nonprofit clients in New York City and managed the strategic communications rollout of a major philanthropic organization’s shift in grantmaking priorities.
John advises a diverse portfolio of clients, specializing in message development, media relations, and integrated public affairs strategies that deliver measurable results. He began his career at SKDK as a public affairs intern, supporting high-profile campaigns across multiple sectors. Before joining SKDK, John worked at a marketing agency, where he developed strategic direct and digital marketing campaigns for national advocacy, political, and nonprofit organizations. He also gained experience at The Nature Conservancy and contributed to Kamala Harris’ successful 2016 Senate campaign.
John holds a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in marketing from American University in Washington, D.C., and is based in Los Angeles.
