SKDK is proud of its pro bono client DC Volunteer Lawyers Project (DCVLP), a group that recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer attorneys to represent domestic violence survivors and at-risk children. The DC Volunteer Lawyers help their clients obtain life-saving civil protection orders and assist in custody disputes, divorce, child support, and immigration matters. SKDK worked to secure a news feature with the group ahead of their annual fundraiser Voices Against Violence. At this year’s event, the group honored Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand for her work in the Senate to help victims of domestic violence. She accepted the Champion of Justice award at the home of Japanese Ambassador Kenichiro Sasae and his wife, Nobuku Sasae. SKDK secured coverage of the event in The Georgetown Dish, Washington Life, Capitol File, Hollywood on the Potomac and got the group a great mention in Politico’s KGB File. DCVLP Board Members Leslie Morgan Steiner and Kathleen Biden were very excited about the coverage we secured and said it was the best press turnout they’ve had since the event’s inception three years ago.
Our work culminated with this feature piece on the organization on NBC4.
