Over the last four years, Donald Trump has been telling white Americans they should be afraid of Black and brown Americans. The painful truth of America past and present is that Black and brown Americans are the ones who truly live in fear for their lives.
Trump and his enablers are using a heavy dose of fear at their convention to gaslight us, to make us believe that he holds no responsibility for everything happening in this country, even though it is happening under his watch – and with his prompting.
We stand with the family of Jacob Blake — and the families of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, Walter Scott, Sandra Bland, Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, Stephon Clark, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Aubrey, George Floyd and all of the countless Black men and women who have been murdered because of the color of their skin. We await justice for Breonna Taylor, and we mourn the protesters who were gunned down in Kenosha two days ago.
Make no mistake, these latest killings are a direct result of 400 years of systemic racism in America and the last four years of Donald Trump’s failed leadership in the White House. Nothing will change if Donald Trump remains President, it will only get worse. There are 68 days until the election. 68 days to mobilize, text your friends, talk to your neighbors and ensure all of them are engaged and know how to exercise their rights.
Tonight, on the eve of the 57th anniversary of the March on Washington, the 2020 Virtual March on Washington will begin at 8:00 pm ET. You can watch at 2020march.com. SKDK is proud to be the pro-bono PR firm for this event which will be counter-programming to the angry and hate-filled RNC Convention. For our DC colleagues, the in-person Commitment March, convened by Rev. Al Sharpton and Martin Luther King III, will gather at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. tomorrow at 11:00 am. We support those of you who want to take time off from work to march and protest. We encourage you to stay safe and wear masks. Virtual programming continues Friday evening at 9:00 pm on 2020march.com.
The SKDK NAACP team has been hard at work on this and we are proud they represent us so well! On November 3rd, we need to vote like our lives are on the line. Because for many Americans, they are.
